Codebook

Brief Description:
The Codebook is the official source for University of Illinois administrative and instructional codes. The Codebook is delivered online and is administered by the University Office for Planning and Budgeting with technical support provided by Administrative Information Technology Services (AITS). The Administrative Codebook contains information on Campus, Administrative Roll-up, College, Sub-College, Department and Subject entities. The Instructional Codebook contains information on Program Code, Major, Concentrations, Minor, Degree, Transcript & Diploma Titles entities. Campus Codebook Data Stewards enter proposed actions which are then reviewed and approved by the University of Illinois Data Stewards. These University of Illinois Data Stewards work with the Administrative Information Technology Services ESC Student Configuration team and the Office of Business and Financial Services CFOAPAL (acronym depicting the finance accounting string: “chart-fund-organization-account-program-activity-location”) Maintenance team to implement the official codes in Banner (a packaged Enterprise Resource Planning software product inclusive of student administration, human resources and finance functionality).

Data from components of the Administrative Codebook serve as basis for Notices of Appointments (NOAs) for academic staff as well as campus phonebook entries, for example. The Instructional Codebook houses data from which diplomas are generated.
